Brain Tumors Treatment

A collection or mass of abnormal cells in the brain is called Brain Tumor. Skull present inside the brain is very rigid and any extra growth inside it can cause problems.

The space is very tight and the growth can press on the surrounding nerves, blood vessels and tissue. Brain tumors can be malignant (cancerous) or benign (not cancerous).

Some general signs and symptoms are:

  • New onset or change in pattern of headaches
  • Headaches that gradually become more frequent and more severe
  • Unexplained nausea or vomiting
  • Vision problems, such as blurred, double or loss of peripheral vision
  • Gradual loss of sensation or movement in an arm or a leg
  • Difficulty making decisions
  • Inability to follow simple commands
  • Seizures, especially in someone who doesn't have a history of seizures

There are two types of brain tumor:

  • Primary brain tumor: It originates in your brain. It can develop from brain cells, membranes, nerve cells, glands. It can be benign or cancerous. In adults, the most common types of brain tumors are gliomas and meningiomas.

  • Secondary brain tumors: It makes the majority of brain cancers. They start in one part of the body then spread to the brain. They are always malignant.
  • Common types include Breast cancer, colon cancer, kidney cancer, lung cancer, melanoma, etc. Diagnosis begins with a neurological exam, imaging tests, Biopsy, etc.
Dr Vamshi Krishna will decide the treatment by examining the test results and other symptoms. Treatment depends on the type, size and location of the tumor. Dr Vamshi will ask your health status and medical history for a proper plan of action.

    Few options include:

  • Surgery: It removes the tumor from the brain safely. Small tumors can be removed easily but sometimes there is some risk involved.

  • Radiation therapy: Radiation therapy uses high-energy beams, such as X-rays or protons, to kill tumor cells.
  • Other options include Radiosurgery, chemotherapy, targeted drug therapy, etc. Brain is an important part of the body. Don’t ignore the signs and symptoms of brain tumors.
